Hi, Sage here. We need to talk about money.
Running a website isn't free. I have to pay for the domain (sageofhestaticpage.life), I have to pay for hosting, and I have to buy the coffee that keeps me awake while I write this code.
To help offset those costs, I sometimes participate in affiliate programs. This page is here to explain exactly what that means, because I believe in 100% transparency. I am not here to trick you into buying garbage you don't need.
1. What is an Affiliate Link?
Sometimes, when I mention a product like a specific soldering iron, a privacy-focused laptop, or a hosting provider I might use a special link.
If you click that link and buy the product, I get a small commission. This comes at no extra cost to you. The price is the same whether you use my link or go directly to the store. The company just gives me a tiny slice of their profit as a "thank you" for sending you there.
2. My Philosophy on Recommendations
There is a lot of "shilling" on the internet. You see influencers promoting VPNs that sell your data, or headphones that break in a week, just because they got paid to say nice things.
I despise that behavior.
Here is my promise to you:
- I only recommend things I actually use. If I link to a specific keyboard, it's because I am typing on it right now. If I link to a hosting service, it's because this website is running on it.
- I will never recommend a product I hate just for money. If a company offers me a pile of cash to promote a piece of junk software, I will tell them to get lost. My credibility is worth more than a $50 commission.
- If something sucks, I will tell you. Even if I am an affiliate, if a product has flaws like a laptop with a soldered SSD or a service with bad support I will mention it. I am an engineer/writer first, a salesman second (actually, I'm not a salesman at all).
3. Your Choice
You are under no obligation to use my links. If you want to support the Sage Of The Static Page, using them is a nice way to do it without spending extra money.
If you prefer to open a new tab and search for the product yourself so I don't get a commission, that is totally fine too. I respect your choice.
Conclusion
I value your trust more than anything else. If you ever feel like I am recommending something just for a paycheck, call me out on it. Send me an email. I want to build a community based on honesty, not marketing fluff.
Stay dark, and spend wisely.
